Roof Flies

We had a call from a lady who was getting flies in her bath! On further investigation we found this lot hiding in her loft.

They are cluster flies – hence they live in a group. Quite a common problem and not associated with something dead in the loft as most people call us about in a panic.

The larvae of one species are parasitic upon certain earthworms, so this species is more common in rural areas.  In autumn they congregate in large numbers in upper rooms or roof spaces of houses to hibernate.

Treatment is normally a surface and/or space spray to remove them. Due to the pheromone they leave in place a treatment may have to be carried out annually.

In the case of this client we successfully treated the area and the tank was drained, cleaned and a cover fitted.
